About Fort Myers Area

FORT MYERS: YOUR GATEWAY TO SOUTHWEST FLORIDA LIVING

Fort Myers, located in Lee County, Florida, is often referred to as the "City of Palms" and is quickly becoming one of the most desirable locations in the United States, offering an unbeatable blend of coastal charm, economic opportunities, and a vibrant, active lifestyle. For prospective residents, the region presents a compelling case for a permanent move, blending easy access to world-class beaches with a strong, growing community infrastructure. These famous beaches include: Fort Myers Beach, Bunche Beach, as well as the beaches of Lovers Key State Park, Sanibel Island, and Captiva Island. The Fort Myers metropolitan area, also known as the Cape Coral-Fort Myers, Florida metro area, includes Cape Coral, Sanibel Island, Captiva Island, Pine Island, Matlacha, Boca Grande, Buckingham, Leigh Acres, Bonita Springs, and Estero.

Recreational and Outdoor Activities

The city's appeal is anchored in its stunning natural surroundings, and its warm climate (varies from 55 to 91 degrees Fahrenheit) makes Fort Myers an ideal destination for year-round outdoor opportunities. The nearby barrier islands of Sanibel and Captiva are famed globally for their sugar-white sands and world-class shelling. Outdoor enthusiasts can explore the Great Calusa Blueway Paddling Trail for kayaking and canoeing, spot manatees at Manatee Park, or stroll the shaded boardwalks of the Six Mile Cypress Slough Preserve. For baseball fans, Fort Myers is the spring training home of the Boston Red Sox at JetBlue Park.

Historical Sites and Local Attractions

History comes alive in the River District downtown and at the Edison and Ford Winter Estates, the former side-by-side homes of inventors Thomas Edison and Henry Ford. The estates, now a sprawling museum and botanical garden, are one of the most popular historic destinations in the state. Other cultural attractions include the IMAG History & Science Center and the historic Burroughs Home & Gardens.

Closest Airport, Hospital, and Road Access

For infrastructure, Fort Myers is exceptionally well-connected. There are several airports in the Fort Myers area; however, the primary hub for air travel is the Southwest Florida International Airport (RSW), which offers numerous domestic and international flights. The city's main ground access is provided by Interstate 75 (I-75), which runs north-south, and U.S. 41, which bisects the region. The area is also served by major medical facilities, including the Lee Memorial Hospital and Gulf Coast Medical Center, both part of the highly-regarded Lee Health system.

Why Buy a House in Fort Myers

Beyond the desirable lifestyle, the real estate market is attractive. Fort Myers' cost of living is notably more affordable than that of other major coastal Florida cities like Naples or Miami. Housing options are diverse, ranging from historic bungalows in areas like Dean Park to waterfront condos and homes in amenity-rich, gated golf communities. With Florida's lack of a state and local personal income tax and a continually growing job market, particularly in healthcare and tourism, owning a piece of this Southwest Florida paradise is both a lifestyle upgrade and a smart long-term financial investment. The consistent demand from retirees and families ensures the market remains robust.
