The lots supported 1522 21st, built in 1885 and utilized as their primary residence, as well as a one-story frame cottage completed in February 1899. The couple demolished this cottage in 1916 and in 1920 they replaced it with the current building. The original insurance record for 1518 21st identifies a one-story frame dwelling elevated 6’ over an enclosed above-ground basement.
