55 Society was constructed between 1840 - 1842 as The High School of Charleston. Designed by the famed Charleston architect, Edward Brickell White, the structure is classic revival in design with six massive Corinthian columns supporting the portico. White also designed numerous churches and public buildings throughout Charleston and other South Carolina cities. The building was rehabilitated into 4 luxury condominiums in the 1980's featuring 13 foot ceilings and original heart pine flooring. Apartment D occupies the second and third floor of the building on the western corner. The main level features a foyer, library, living/dining room with mantled fireplace, powder room and kitchen with breakfast area. Both the dining area and the breakfast area open to a private balcony.
